Summary of review process for surface water plans

All surface water management areas with a water management plan (final or draft) have a review process. The period of review ranges from two to ten years across Australia. Victoria's review period is ten years; New South Wales has a five-year review period with a plan life of ten years; Tasmania ranges from three to ten years, South Australia has a review period of five years, and Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory have a review period of five to seven years.

The setting of periods for regular review of surface water plans is important. What is more important in an open monitoring, evaluation and reporting framework is that there is a review and that key learnings from the review are then incorporated into the plans.
